Abstract
Gender equality in education is one of the important parts of the national policy of gender mainstreaming; however, the teachers’ professional knowledge of gender equality education is highly limited. It is crucial to enhance teacher’s competences on teaching gender equality issues. In recent years, under the support of the government, teacher education institutions began to apply Internet technology to set up various types of on-line learning platforms. Online learning has gradually become an important channel to access new knowledge for in-service teachers. In order to assure the developmental appropriateness of the content knowledge as well as the efficiency of the designed internet technology, we consider that the inputs from the audience with technology backgrounds also become imperative. Herewith, this study tried to use Internet technology to promote gender equality education. A website and on-line learning courses are established to provide in-service teachers, parents, volunteer educators helpful knowledge and sources of gender equality education. Questionnaire was used to collect data about the backgrounds of the users (including sex, identity, and habits of using technological products) and their degree of satisfaction about the website. Google Analysis was used to collect the data of page views and to assess the efficacy of different strategies for promotion. Based on the above data, the overall efficacy of the internet technology for promoting gender-equality is assessed; the pros and cons of the internet technology in gender equality will be discussed to shed lights on future studies.
