This dissertation focuses on XML- and Web-based electronic document management for ISO9000 compliance and information exchange and integration. Documents consisting of quality-related information and knowledge must be managed and shared among supply chain partners to facilitate coordination and collaboration and to achieve the contractual product quality. Thus, using ISO10303 standard data models and XML standard Web technology to implement document management system are essential for quality assurance for extended enterprises. Based on ISO9000 and ISO10013 guidelines and the architecture modeling of integrated information system (ARIS) technique, this research derives the data requirements for ISO9000-based document management and presents a scenario for quality-related document flow. ISO10303 is applied to map the ISO9000 required data to standard data entities and the corresponding XML schema. Several implementation examples are developed to show the XML/XSL capabilities for streamlining document management process. The implemented examples demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiencies of document customizing, querying, hierarchical linking, tracking and reusing. The research results not only enable the pursuit of ISO9000 compliance within extended enterprises and supply chain partners, but also can facilitate document flow and information integration.
