Abstract
Cancer treatment is an important issue of modern medicine. In mid-east Asia, especially China and Taiwan, hepatic cancer is the top 10 cancer, and very high mortality rate. Reduction volume of tumor is the strategy for treatment of hepatic tumor, including surgery, focal alcohol injection, focal radiofrequncy ablation. Tumor arterial chemoembolization and tumor arterial radiotherapy is an optional way for treatment of hepatic tumor due to not complete reduction of tumor volume. BNCT (boron neutron capture therapy) is a selective radiotherapy. THOR provides high quality epithermal neutron flux. The pharmacokinetics and therapeutic efficacy of BA (boric acid)-mediated BNCT for liver tumor in the VX2 hepatic tumor model was performed. Following simulation for human hepatic tumor BNCT performed, good dose distribution base on the proper radiation exposure field, proper T/N ratio of boron concentration, theoretically treatment of multiple hepatic tumor might be done. We need to find a good bio-tracer of boric acid before BNCT treatment, this would be an important topic prior to clinical hepatic BNCT.
