Abstract
The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between risk perception and the quality of industrial R&D project by using Janis’ conflict model. According to the past literature, we found most of them merely focused on risk identification, risk measurement, and risk analysis, etc. Few studies were addressed to the issue of the risk perception. However, risk perception is one of the most important aspects in risk management. In order to understand the effect of risk perception in industrial R&D project, we used conflict model, proposed by Janis & Mann in 1977, as the research framework. And four industrial R&D projects, sponsored by Industrial Development Bureau, are used as research subjects to conduct an empirical study. The results reveal that the experience of the team plays an important role in the initial stage, and the coordination among the team is important in the new strategy building stage and the time evaluation stage has a notable effect to the performance of the project. Besides, we find the uncertainty, the percentage of the enterprise’s own expenditure, and the motive of project in the risk perception stage is remarkable for the decision behavior of the project team. Based on the research findings stated above, we finally proposed a modified conflict mode. This proposed model can be used in interpreting the risk perception behavior regarding to perform an industrial R&D project.
