Abstract
An experimental study together with a series of thermal analysis on thethermal performance for 133 MHz notebook computers has been conducted in the present research. In the experimental aspect, an experimental method for measuring temperature rise and thermal performance at the locations of interestsin the notebook computer has been presented. Thermal behaviors of the notebookcomputer under five testing conditions and programs, which represents differentrated power dissipations, have also been investigated. A series of transient temperature distributions on the case surfaces of notebook computer as well asthose of the ambients surrounding and inside the notbook computer have experimentallybeen collected. They will become the known boundary conditions when the interiorthermal analysis performs in the further development of thermal analyzer for notebookcomputers. In the theoretical aspect, an effective and interactive thermal analyzer includingthermal model establishment and thermal network analysis for notebook computers hashas been developed. With this developed thermal analyzer, the thermal performances ofnotebook computers using five types of thermal model have been evaluated, and a series ofparametric studies have also been explored. Comparison with the experimental data indicatesthat the temperature rises and thermal performances at the locations of interest can be predicted satisfactorily by the developed thermal analyzer.
