Abstract
In CDMA mobile communication systems, the frequency reuse factor is equal to one and soft handoff technology with combining macroscopic diversity was introduced to enhance the link performance. In this work, a novel diversity combining scheme for soft handoff is proposed to enhance the link performance of forward-link. In this proposed scheme, we integrate the error-correcting coding into the transmission of soft handoff to improve the system performance. The coded symbols for an MS are equally distributed into different channels from different BSs to the MS and each channel carries a disjointed set of coded symbols. The computer simulations and numerical analysis show that the performance of proposed scheme is found to be very close to that of maximal ratio combining scheme.
