Abstract
In this thesis, we propose a protection technique of side information used in the time-domain circular shift based partial transmit sequence (PTS) scheme for both turbo coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (TCOFDM) systems and multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM systems. In circular shift based PTS, we can achieve lower peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) with proposed partition than conventional partition. The soft estimation of side information is used in TCOFDM, and we will insert some pilots into some OFDM tones and observe the phase shifts of these pilots to obtain the side information. Since the circular shift in the time domain will introduce phase rotation in the frequency domain, the pilots are inserted in frequency domain. We propose iterative soft estimation to estimate the phase rotation and hence side information. We also extend some PAPR-reduction techniques such as tail-biting selective-mapping (SLM), SLM-repeating clipping and filtering (RCF)-Deliberate Power Boost (DPB), conventional PTS and time-domain circular shift based PTS to MIMO-OFDM systems, and investigate the PAPR performance of these PAPR-reduction techniques.
