Abstract
In 2009, 3M™ Company introduced a breakthrough technology with the launch of Cubitron™ II. Comprised of uniformly sized triangles of ceramic aluminum oxide, all the cutting edges are toward the maching surface. The precision shaped grains are designed to fracture as they wear, continuously forming sharp edges. Because of these properties, Cubitron™ II is different from conventional abrasives in grinding mechanism. Bring an opportunity to enhance the quality of grinding. This research presents the grinding mechanism of Cubitron™ II. Design grinding experiment to realize the grinding process of Cubitron™ II abrasive and compare with conventional aluminum oxide grinding wheel. Then, use Cubitron™ II wheel in ultrasonic assisted grinding checking if Cubitron™ II abrasive conform ultrasonic assisted grinding theory or not. Finally, investigate the wear of Cubitron™ II wheel that help us estimate the life of wheel. The goal of this research is to identify the advantages of Cubitron™ II in grinding process that will be in favor of the follow-up research and developments.
