To facilitate the IP reuse problem, the Virtual Socket Interface Alliance has defined the VCI (Virtual Component Interface) standard in April 2001. This thesis presents a general VCI dedicated to facilitate the integration of general-type processors and memories. In addition, we have presented several specific-types of VCIs dedicated to facilitate the integration of specific-type processors and memories. When a user or an integrator requires to integrate an any-type processor to an any-type memory, this user or integrator can only generate the wrapper of the processor and the wrapper of the memory manually or automatically. In addition to be capable of being point-to-point interface between any processor and memory, these proposed VCIs are capable of interfacing any processor or memory and any on-chip-BUS. We have also discussed the design guidelines of the wrappers of the proposed VCIs, and proposed the system architecture for verifying the proposed VCIs. The experimental results have demonstrated that the wrappers of our proposed VCIs can achieve higher performance and lower area cost than those of the PVCI especially when the targeted processor types and memory types are simple.
