Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a helpful tool for the Supply-Chain members to share information efficiently and accurately. Traditional EDI via Value-Add-Networks (VANs) and private lines is too expensive for small- and medium- enterprise (SMEs) toimplement EDI. Thus, the information integration of the entire Supply Chain is hindered by the difficulty of SME's EDIimplementation. Internet-based EDI overcomes this problem by providing SMEs a cost-effective solution to implement EDI. The trend in Enterprise Integration within manufacturing enterprise is to use the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. For SMEs, integrating Internet-based EDI capability into the ERP system will achieve a high level of information integration between external business environment and internal applications. In order to fulfill this concept, this thesis develops an ERP-based electronic commerce (EC) system applying Internet-based EDI for the small and medium manufacturing enterprise in Taiwan. The processes for handling EDI messages are first modeled based on ARIS architecture comprehensively. The ARIS models represent the required business processes for handling EDI messages, including the procedures to ensure the security measure of Internet-based EDI. Furthermore, the architecture of an ERP-based EC system is designed and proposed based on the process models. The system's functions, data objects, and execution procedures conform to the design presented in the process models. Finally, the prototyping system is practically implemented to demonstrate the process models and the proposed architecture.
