This research investigates the incentives and effectiveness of the use of social media as a recruiting channel by electronics/semiconductor manufacturing industry in Taiwan. We focus on Facebook, which is the most popular social media in Taiwan, and conduct a case study on ASML Taiwan. This research studies the effectiveness of social recruitment quantitatively by using data retrieved from administration platform of Facebook and Application Tracking System of ASML. We find that the quality of resumes obtained through Facebook is higher than that obtained from other recruiting channels such as campus recruitment, job bank, and corporate website. In addition, the rate of conversion from interview to offer for the applicant from Facebook is higher than that for the applicant from other channels. Lastly, the average cost of resume and offers are NT$68 and NT$1,651, respectively, which are the lowest among all recruitment channels. The result of this study proves that Facebook can be an effective recruiting channel for electronics/semiconductor manufacturing industry in Taiwan.
