Wireless sensor networks have high density of sensor nodes and nodes are usually deployed into outside space. This cannot guarantee that all nodes in the network are always working since they are battery used with limited energy and are vulnerable to broken because of hostile environmental condition. Energy is an important resource of sensor nodes, and it determines the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. In order to prolong the network lifetime, we design a routing protocol using game theory, called game-based routing, and an energy-saving (wakeup/sleep) scheme using extreme value theory. Using game theory, node chooses better parent that has the largest benefit. Moreover, making decision is more efficient than using centralized mechanism since it causes larger overhead than only concerning neighbor information. For energy-saving scheme, our protocol allows nodes to adjust its duty cycle dynamically according to network traffic condition based on extreme value theory. Nodes reduce energy consumption from idle listening. By changing better parent and energy-saving scheme, our proposed mechanism really prolong the network lifetime.
