Abstract
Abstract There is a significant scope for increased renewable energy use in Swaziland. Renewable energy will continue to play an important role in the country’s economy through job creation and energy supply in the near future. Renewable energy sometimes referred to alternative energy has benefits to the environmental. More than 70% of Swaziland current electricity supply is imported, predominantly from South Africa. The electricity tariff has doubled between 2009 and 2012 and is expected to continue. This leaves the consumers to find an alternative choice. Renewable energy is no longer just the best choice socially and environmentally, it is also the best choice economically for the country’s struggling power capacity. Renewable energy offers nearly unlimited supply of energy if one considers the energy needs of mankind compared to the energy we receive from the sun. Swaziland has continued to initiate, implement and support renewable energy projects and initiatives. The ministry of Natural resource and energy under the department of energy formulated strategic framework and action plan with regards to renewable energy development.
