Abstract
This project focuses on developing a computer-aided automotive part(wheel-rim) design system, which considers both design efficiency and product information sharing. The system have three main characteristics: (1) applying the concept of feature-based design to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of wheel-rim design, (2) using the interface (DCL) and advanced development (ADS) tools of a CAD system (AutoCAD) to develop a easy-to-use wheel-rim design system, and finally (3) utilizing the interchange standard of product data exchang model (ISO 10303) to enable the sharing of data between designers, manufacturers and customers. This system supports the technology of standard data modeling for a feature-based CAD system to achieve CAD/CAM integration. Further more, it supports methodology of technical data interchange (TDI) and enterprise integration for the concept of virtual enterprises (VE).
