Abstract
We apply gamma ray irradiation with 30 kGy and 200 kGy on polycarbonate specimen with air-drawing, water-drawing and oil-drawing. The oscillations of curves were observed in air-drawing at different temperatures. For water-drawing and oil-drawing experiment, we did not observe oscillation in the tensile curve. We used Arrhenius plot to the activation energy of the slope. The slope is from 1 / temperature – log (1 / period) diagram. The slip bands always occur in the necking region, but it never appeared in the irradiation specimen. For different orders of strain rate in air-drawing, we apply crosshead speeds of 0.084mm/min, 0.84mm/min, 25.2mm/min and 252mm/min. The result showed there is no oscillation in the diagram and slip bands still appear on the surface. In the tensile experiment in insulating system, we use heat insulation material (asbestos) and cladding material. The results provide that tensile curve did not oscillate in air-drawing and exothermic phenomenon causes temperature increasing gradually. The slip bands still occur in water-drawing and oil-drawing specimen. We also calculate the thermal frequency and distance of slip bands. FT-IR experiment can observe the change of banding or breakage of cross-links. The wave number (cm-1) of IR is from 4000 to 500 cm-1.
