Abstract
As the advances of fiber optics and Internet applications, high-speed switches with rate guaranteed quality of services are desired strongly. Switching architectures, such as shared memory or shared bus, are impractical to build for high speed switches and routers. Instead of using these switching architectures, the crossbar switching architecture has received a lot of attention recently. In this thesis, we analyze and design a 4 x 4 Birkhoff-von Neumann input buffered Crossbar Switch on a FPGA chip that not only successfully provides uniform service guarantees (average service rate guarantee, bounded delay, maximum queued length, etc.) for all non-uniform traffic but also can achieve 100 % throughput.
