Abstract

Science Park Feasibility Costa Rica Science Park Feasibility Costa Rica
Today the developed economies are the ones that can be identified with a proper use of technology, and the less developed are identified by the lack of use of it. The creation and development of an indigenous technology is necessary for developing a nation’s economy. A Regional Innovation System is the ideal scenario where the synergy between the participants of the innovation model will allow this development of indigenous technology and the proper use of it. To replicate this RIS effects, Science Parks have been utilized around the world with a high degree of success in many cases. This project studies the present Costa Rica, and based on the success factors from the literature review and the successful Science Park cases around the world, a feasibility study of a SP in Costa Rica is performed. A questionnaire is carried out to various Costa Rican experts in the fields of science and technology in the public arena, the private industry and the academia. Insufficient elements are found in Costa Rica for a governmental supported development of a successful SP, so recommendations are formulated as a guide for the government to improve in those weak areas.
