Abstract
In the thesis, we consider the implementation of a CMOS image sensor using a novel DPS (digital pixel sensor) proposed by my colleagues. The underlying DPS uses fewer transistors than other DPS in the literature and has a wide dynamic range, more than 90dB. The simulation results show that this DPS has a light-to-digital-code transfer curve with logarithmic-response. For accomplishing the CMOS image sensor chip, we design a D/A converter and a control circuit. In addition, a measurement system with FPGA board and GUI program is also built in order to test the chip and analyze the image data. A simulation environment with post-layout accuracy is used to demonstrate the sensor’s performance. We show that a number of pictures, e.g., the one of fireworks, can be captured more clearly than a traditional sensor.
