Abstract

銀髮族 住宅 silver residence
It is evident that the population of elderly in Taiwan will surpass that of youth after 2016 based on the shift of population paradigm in the last few decades. Such an inevitable and irreversible trend, despite the associated problems and challenges unseen in the history of Taiwan, is believed to also create brand new demands and business opportunities. The first and foremost core subject for Taiwan after shifting into an aged society is how to provide adequate care for the ever-increasing elderly population. Not only are the financial (e.g. social insurance, elderly benefits, and private business insurance) and health (e.g. routine physical checkup, post-surgical rehab, and family care tailored to the elderly) aspects of the equation in need of care, but also advanced planning to meet the needs of their daily life such as continued education, social and networking activities, outdoor events, and oversea trips etc. While the situation might appear complicated, proper solutions could be found in a complete and wholesome design of residential complexes that address the functionalities relevant to the silver population. In a nutshell, as the commercial world continues to move into individualized service tailored to the specific needs of the consumers, it is within reach to incorporate for silver residence an approach similar to how 3-D printing was employed for the sales of luxurious sports cars. Moreover, the highly developed service industry in Taiwan that is known to the world could be easily integrated to bring close to reality a sound system to support the life of elderly after retirement.
