Abstract
A PCN location tracking strategy called shortcut forwarding pointer strategy is intro-duced to reduce the loads upon the signaling network and network database as compared to the location tracking strategy proposed in per-user forwarding strategy more effectively. The main observation behing shortcut forwarding is that most of users may have local mobile behaviors. It is not necessary for a mobile terminal having local mobile behavior to register its location data at the HLR when the length of the chain of pointers is more than a pre-specified length. The mobile terminal sends registration message to its first VLR instead of the HLR. By doing this, the communication overhead can be reduced more effectively. In this thesis, we demonstrate that the network cost of shortcut forwarding strategy has an upper bound. The upper bound is always low or equal to the network cost of per-user forwarding strategy. We also compare the network cost among shortcut forwarding strategy, per-user forwarding strategy and IS-41. The numerical results show that the network cost of shortcut forwarding strategy is always low or equal to the network cost of per-user forwarding strategy and IS-41.
