Abstract
With automobile industry developing, autonomous vehicle is not a dream anymore. Google, Apple, Tesla, BMW and more corporations have announced that their autonomous vehicle will be launched in the following years. This shows not only the business opportunity for auto companies, but also leads to a significant breakthrough on the automobile industry trend. However, a legal scheme is needed for the autonomous vehicle in order to be approved for use. Many nations are working in this direction; for instance, England and France both have allowed autonomous vehicles to be tested on the road since 2014. Therefore, presently the companies are working to produce such vehicles with various countries supporting this development. As a result, the whole automobile industry is changing to catch up the trend of autonomous vehicle construction. In this study we focus on the China’s government policy, the features of autonomous vehicles and the market penetration rate, in order to understand China autonomous vehicles development. We consider the Geely Automobile Company as a particular case and we study, the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat of its autonomous vehicles by SWOT analysis. We find that Geely has already developed superior autonomous vehicle compared to most of companies in China. However, more time is required before the lunch of the car in the market, since the road testing of the car is still pending. In the meantime, we propose that a corporation with carpool companies would make the use of the autonomous car more effective for the public use. We explain the advantages of this suggestion, and discuss how to implement it in practice.
