Abstract

This thesis focuses on the Jian-Fu Palace Garden of Forbidden City which builds in Qianlong Reign. In order to restructure the historical positioning and orthodox image, the Manchu ruling class uses the vested power to conduct a series of systems: including the new policy, etiquette education system and space construction. As the first major project of Emperor Qianlong's inner court, the Jian-fu Palace garden is the representation of the time-space blending of Qianlong Reign. It is also part of an important political strategy and serving as the emblem of legitimate imperial succession. When Qianlong was a prince, the space used of Jian-Fu Palace Garden was given by emperor Yongzheng. To the married adult prince, it’s the greatest honor that given by the emperor was to live in the Forbidden City. Therefore, Qianlong has special emotion in this space, and the Jian-Fu Palace Garden also has special links with Qianlong Reign’s political and cultural tendency. The research argued the Jian-Fu Palace Garden has the mirror image that reflects Qianlong’s personal will and the time characteristics. By analyzing the historical documents of the Qianlong period, this thesis aims to explore the space of emplacement of Jian-Fu Palace Garden: First, the political tactics and the personal will of Qianlong that reflected in this space. Second, how Qianlong reconstructs the historical position, contrasts with the outside world through the internal space to achieve the goal of reconsidering and reconstructing himself. Third, the political power relationship between Qianlong Empire and others (foreign culture or other subordinate areas). Fourth, the emperor's personal will and policy, how to influence the Chinese and western cultural exchange and spatial presentation in Qianlong period.
