Abstract
Facing the globalization trend, Taiwan industries must gradually upgrade their R&D capabilities. Knowledge-based business developments become a focus of modern enterprises. Thus the traditional capital-intensive production is no longer the only critical success factor of companies. In order to meet the sophisticated and changing demands of customers, enterprises must launch products that meet the market demands in a timely matter. Therefore, R&D teams around the world must share their works with each other through a collaborative design environment, complete the design projects following the time constraints, and ensures the high quality of new products. Using the complicated IC design project management as example, this research first analyzes the IC design flow, derives the project management functional modules, and enables the process flow management for the web-based collaborative design environment. Based on the results of the system analysis, a system framework is developed incorporating Petri-Net process control modeling technique, dynamic document access control method, rule-based flow management approach, and project performance (cost and time) evaluation models. Finally, a prototyping system is developed according to the framework derived in this research to examine the feasibility of the collaborative project management framework.
