Abstract
This study was aimed at the application of mixed ionic liquids (MIL, mixed ionic liquid) on the extraction of toluene and Cu2+ from aqueous media simultaneously. Studies of extraction efficiency were performed by using some selected ionic liquids (ILs) under different conditions. Cu2+ and toluene were extracted respectively with TSILs(task specific ionic liquids)having thio-urea functional group and [HMIM][PF6] (1-methyl-3-hexyl-imidazolium hexaflurophosphate). The results show that mixed IL has good extraction efficiency. The functions of ILs are distinct and interference between ILs are negligible. At the optimum conditions (pH: 7,extraction time and temperature: 20 mins, 25℃, mixed ratio of TSIL/RIL:0.4), the recovery efficiency of toluene is 88% and the extraction efficiency of Cu2+ is 100%. However, a change in aqueous –phase pH doesn’t promote the stripping of metal from mixed ionic liquid. Extreme condition (high acid and temperature) may decompose the functional group of TSIL.In future, other investigations are necessary to solve this problem.
