Abstract
Due to the change of commercial environment, the industry in Taiwan is transforming from manufacturing-based to design-based. In facing the compress of time to market and the difficulty in forecasting the demand of customers, it is very important to make a supply chain smooth in order to succeed in the competitive market. The early involvement of key suppliers into the new product development process is a major way to smooth the workflow in a supply chain. In this paper, we study how to perform DFS(Design for Supplier)in the new product development process and how to use the feedback information from suppliers to reduce the time of new product development. A supplier collaboration development model is built, which includes three modules:DFS system design module, DFS system evaluation module and DFS system improvement module. In the system design module, it considers the required information of DFS in different product development phases during the collaboration with suppliers. In the system evaluation module, it evaluates the performance of supplier collaboration, and provide the result to the system improvement module, which will continually improve the performance of the new product development process.A case study of the notebook industry is used to illustrate the proposed supplier collaborate development model and the construction of a continual improvement system for the new product development process.
