Abstract
In recent years, owing to the success of Six Sigma at Motorola and GE, many enterprises are implementing Six Sigma to improve quality and increase the profit. However, how to select an appropriate Six Sigma project is crucial in implementing Six Sigma. If the selected project cannot fit the requirements and goal of the enterprise, it will lead to failure in implementing Six Sigma. Thus, it seems extraordinarily important to select a suitable Six Sigma project. Many enterprises usually don’t know how to select Six Sigma project. The objective of this study is to establish the Six Sigma project selection method. First, by taking into consideration the project characteristics and enterprise demand, the possible Six Sigma projects are deployed. Then, through literature review, this study develops the evaluation index and applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to build the framework of hierarchy. Next, the AHP methodology is employed to acquire the weights of criteria and factors in the evaluation framework, and the project selection matrix is utilized to obtain the rating score of the Six Sigma project. Hopefully, suitable projects can be found. Finally, a case study is provided to illustrate the applicability of the methodology. In addition, we use the Excel to build a Six Sigma project selection system to help the decision maker efficiently select the vital Six Sigma projects.
