Abstract
In this thesis, a system based on photothermal deflection method to measure the heat generation is proposed. Unlike general photothermal photo deflection systems, the sample acts as the heat source in our experiments. The energy loss of eddy-current, relaxation and damping during the magnetized process with a modulated alternative magnetic field is studied in this thesis. From the experimental results, the thermal signal of the eddy-current loss has different response with the modulation frequency, and is depend on the thermal diffusivity length of the deflection media. In the magnetic fluid experiment, the energy loss during Neel and Brownian relaxation process has been measured. However, damping during the magnetized process doesn’t have the expectable results in this experiment. It infers that the sensitivity of this system is not high enough to measure the heat signal.
