Abstract
Abstract Gold nanoparticle (GNP) has been demonstrated a biocompatible and popular nano-biomaterial, which can be manipulated into different shapes, like nanospheres, nanorods, nanocubes, etc; however using the citrate reduction method for the synthesis of gold nanospheres is a challenge to reach particle size more than 30 nm by one-step procedures. Our strategy is to use nuclear reactor to conduct gold nanoparticle which is radioactive and shows potential for radiation therapy. Commercially available boric acid, containing 19% of boron-10, was used as additives to assist the synthesis of gold nanoparticle. Boron-10 has a very special property, Boron Neutron Capture, releasing an alpha particle and a lithium ion after a boron-10 capturing a neutron. In this way, there are many solvate electrons and hydrogen free radicals instantly generated in the solution and help reducing gold ions into gold nanoparticles. It takes advantage of preparing gold nanoparticle with 50 nm and renders them radioactivity in one step reaction. I have dramatically declined the time of gold nanoparticles synthesis and activate the gold nanoparticles in the same time. Based on the radioactive gold nanoparticle, I intend to develop nanoparticle- based platform for internal radiotherapy.
