Abstract
Controlled patterning of metal nanoparticles on surface seems to be very promising for nanotechnology applications in electronics, photonics, and (bio)chemical sensing. In this research, we studied the growth of nanoparticle/wires directly on phospholipid Langmuir-Blodgett films by seed-mediate method. Using DSPC, Cholesterol and DSPC/Cholesterol mixed monolayers as templates, we successfully synthesized triangular plates, hexagonal plates, nanorods, and even nanowires longer than 2 μm. Experiments with difference conditions, such as soaking time of the seeds, number of LB layers, etc. were conducted to optimize the synthesizing process. Very long silver nanowires were synthesized on the monlayer LB films prepared at exceeding the breakdown surface pressure. It is suspected that line defects were formed on the monolayer at exceeding the breakdown voltage and they serve as the template to induce the growth of nanowires along these line defects.
