Abstract
Display devices is one of the most important part of current electro-optics industry, and liquid crystal display (LCD) shares the major portion of this market. Because liquid crystal is an non-emitting device, it requires additional light source to illuminate the image pattern. For this reason, back light unit (BLU) is an important part in LCD display and has several varieties depending on applications. The traditional light guide plate in backlight module of side edge type exploit total internal reflection to guide and distribute light over the whole screen, and dive the light out of the screen uniformly with well designed printed dot or microstructures pattern. In this article, novel light guide fully composed of reflective plate has been proposed as a light weight solution for backlight module of side edge type. Accompanying with the optical films used in existing backlight module, the uniformity of the prototype has shown the feasibility and potential for large screen application. We use the simulation soft to design the backlight module first, and make the prototype according to the simulation result. The weight of the prototype is thinner and lighter then the traditional one, but the luminance and uniformity is needed to optimize.
