Abstract
Mu-zha depot of Taipei Rapid Transit System(TRTS)has been suffered from the lightning outages during a long period from 1995 through 1999. For analyzing the protection scheme after each outage, the TRTS has organized a research team for this purpose. For each lightning outage, the equipments damaged by lightning strikes are not the same, in view of their usage and location within the depot. Design for the engineering work for improvement of lightning protection carried out, after each outage, are thus on a case-by-case basis, which complicates the contents of these engineering works. This thesis intends to compile up these experiences including how the lightning surge travels and what contents are of these engineering works. After the compilation Electro-Magnetic Transient Program(EMTP)has been applied to simulate and analyze the lightning outages.On basis of the simulation results, the safety of depot equipments under the lightning strike has been evaluated. The lightning outages of Mu-zha depot haved caused huge amount of assets loss and decreased quality of business operation. As a lot of industies have the same suffering from lightning, the experience of Mu-zha depot is thus a valuable reference to these industries. Further, in the thesis, technical references on lightning surge have been collected, and compiled. The compilation and analysis include the property and the countermeasure for the lightning surge as well as the transient behavior of power system components under the lightning strike. Based on them, the variation of ground potential rise under each lightning strike at Mu-zha depot has been investigated.
