Abstract
This study surveyed the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry from the historical and technology diffusion views in order to conclude the most important factor of this industry. Taiwan's semiconductor industry has developed for nearly four decades in the history, and it is the most important role of science and economy in Taiwan. The manufacturing process of the semiconductor industry is combined with complex steps, and it will become more complex with the emergence of new technologies. It seems to be interesting to find out how to spread out the new technology as soon as possible. This research enumerates the overall development of Taiwan's semiconductor industry at various times and finds out the most important factor in the development of the whole industry. Industrial Technology Research Institute ( ITRI ) has important influences and contributions to Taiwan's semiconductor industry and they have a close relationship between each other. Moreover, we can understand how ITRI develop Taiwan's semiconductor industry by reviewing the history and then it could be used as an example of other industries.
