Abstract
Taiwanese magnesium alloy forming industry has become the biggest manufacturer of 3C cases and components in Asia, along with Taiwanese reputation of being the best OEM country in the world for the portable 3C products, such as notebook computer, mobile phones, among other products. Since 1999, many businesspeople have started to get involved in the magnesium alloy industry due to its great potential in the future. This phenomenon has caused an excessive centralized product market and the price competition is fierce. Besides, this industry has been very much under evaluated, so there are about 35 manufacturers who dedicate themselves in this industry, but only “Catcher” and “Waffer Technology Corp.” are making quite good profit, some other manufacturers have withdrawn from the market, others, if not, are suffering from loss or only able to even out the balance sheets. Therefore, the operation of this industry has presented a polarization, which deserves a study of its related key success factors. Hope this study could help the manufacturers who are still in the market or to the new comers in their operations. The study results showed there are 8 key success factors of Taiwanese magnesium alloy forming industry, which generally identified by this industry and they are: 1) excellent back-side process ability; 2) is able to handle mass production; 3) is able to deliver and control the products with punctuality; 4) is able to produce with lower cost and the price is competitive; 5) is able to produce excellent mold designs; 6) is able to set up a standard operation procedure (SOP) and knowledge management system; 7) is able to integrate full process production and increase the yield rate of production; 8) is able to repair production equipment and troubleshooting in a timely manner. At the same time, the study comes to realize that among the above 8 key success factors, the numbers 1), 2), and 3) keep the same positions in all the sample groups, they show their undeniable importance, they are also the key success factors an enterprise must hold for their success or failure.
