Abstract
Dr. Taguchi has emphasized "The quality characteristic should be directly related to the energy transfer associated with the basic mechanism of the product or the process". Therefore, the appropriate quality characteristic of the product or the process should be related to the energy transfer associated with the basic mechanism. In this study, the relation between quality characteristic and basic mechanism from the cases "heat exchangers" and "tiles" is discussed. Moreover, the reasons of the selected quality characteristics of two cases mentioned in this study are explained through the viewpoint of basic mechanism. At last, it is recommended that an engineer is supposed to identify the basic mechanism of the product or the process as he deals with the problem about the selection of the quality characteristic. Thus the appropriate characteristic will be obtained by this way.
