Abstract

Comparing with the previous researches, this study is dedicated to investigate the correlation between machine errors and transmission errors as the form errors of the gears are neglected. Therefore, the error model of a single flank tester is first constructed and a MATLAB based computer software is established by associating methodology used in precision machine design with gear meshing theory. By analyzing the influence of machine errors on transmission errors of the gearset enables to designate allowable tolerances and predicts the function of transmission errors caused by machine errors. The error model of a single flank tester represented by homogeneous transformation matrix is established to compute the relative position errors between the driving and driven axes of the tester and determine the profile functions of involute spur gearset for calculating transmission errors by gear meshing theory. The simulation shows that the transmission-error-function is not affected significantly by the machine errors when the two axes are in parallel. However, the effect may increase when the parallelism errors grow. Accordingly, the parallelism errors of the axes should be minimized when the gearset is assembled.
