Abstract
A general reconstructive receiver structure for communications over multipath fading channels is discussed in this thesis. The general receiver structure includes a preprocessor, a postprocessor, a channel estimator and a detector. Based on this general receiver structure, we implement various components practically by match filters, Kalman filters, and Viterbi algorithm. A simulator performing channel simulation and receiver simulation is built to justify this practical design. As shown with some design examples, this practical receiver algorithm proposed in this thesis would perform as an optimal receiver as possible with the payment of circuit complexity. Furthermore, a new method which reduces the effect of error propagation caused by data-aided feedback is also discussed.
