Abstract
Image-based virtual environment is currently the most suitable approach in virtual touring and virtual museum. Comparing to traditional 3-D geometric approach, Image-based approach provides high quality image frames in an interactive speed, which is independent of the complexity of the scene, on inexpensive computer systems. The construction of the image-based virtual environment consists of the synthesis or generation of panoramas of the scene, delwaroing panoramas to the view plane and the transitions between panorama nodes. In this thesis, we will study the basic idea of image-based rendering system and implement a simple image-based VR browser. We will also try to solve the node-transition problem by image morphing algorithm based on correspondent lines.
