Abstract
The major applications for the home-use robot in the future is edutainment (Edutainment = Education + Entertainment). In some countries, experimental robots have engaged in some complementary services for hospitals and domestic work. It is believed that soon in the future, robots will be serving the community in an all-round way. Based on the above observation, design of multi-functional robots which satisfy the needs of home-use edutainment is essential. We have participated two domestic robot contests to obtain hands-on experiences of the design and implementation of home-use robots, which is covered in this thesis. The thesis includes two major parts:(1)The design and implementation of MIR-1 for the first "The Home-Use Robot Creation Camp" hosted by the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs.(2)The design and implementation of Robot-Fighter for the first "Sunplus Chip Creation Competition" hosted by the Sunplus Inc. The major difference between these two contests is their application platforms, and therefore their functions and the applicable environments are also different. However, the objective of both contests is to encourage the development of home-use robots. And lastly, the development and design of home-use robots is discussed and evaluated according to the contest experiences and the referees’ comments so that home-use robot could go into people’s daily lives.
