Abstract
This study provides an input–output analysis of the Nicaraguan BPO industry’s intersectoral linkages and its potential impact on compensation and employment. We found that the BPO industry is a not key sector in terms of stimulating production in other sectors of the Nicaraguan economy presenting intersectoral linkages lower than one. However, growth in the sector’s revenues can have a significant impact on compensation and employment; an increase in the sector’s revenues would generate a considerable increase in the sector’s total wage bill of 1.14 million by 2014. In addition, according to the forecast performed in this study this sector can provide 8,280 new jobs entrants between 2008 and 2014.
