Abstract
ABSTRACTThe 17O+12C total and partial fusion reactions have been studied in the range of Ecm between 4.64 and 9.0 MeV with a HPGe detector. Gamma rays of low-lying states of 21Ne, 24Mg, 25Mg, 27Al and 28Si were observed. Beam-off delayed activities were measured to give information of the relative yield of 28Al vs. 28Si, and 27Mg vs. 27Al. Partial cross sections of aa + 21Ne, an + 24Mg, a + 25Mg, pn + 27Al and n + 28Si were deduced from these yields with the aid of statistical model calculations, after the contribution of b-activities were subtracted. The total fusion cross sections were obtained by summing the partial cross sections of these residual nuclei. The reaction of 17O + 12C shows no resonant structure in the energy excitation function as those in 12C + 12C and 16O + 12C. The total fusion cross sections of 17O+12C are of the same magnitude as those of 16O+ 13C in the sub-coulomb barrier range. The optical model calculations were performed to fit the experimental data with the standard optical model parameters and parameters fitting the elastic scattering of 17O+12C by other experiments.
