Abstract
This thesis takes Dharma Master Cheng Yen, founder of Tzu Chi Foundation, as the subject of case study. From Dharma Master Cheng Yen’s will for compassion which lead to the founding of Tzu Chi, this paper analyzes the shared value behind the leadership vision, mission, teaching, organization, and followers, adding actual leadership cases, to conclude that “compassion” is the core value in Dharma Master Cheng Yen’s leadership. With “compassion” as the major leadership influence for followers, we name this leadership model as “Compassion Leadership”. In addition, this paper takes Chapter 32 of Buddhist classic Diamond Sutra, following the order of original text, description, explanation, to document Buddha’s doctrines, and summarizes the theory of Compassion Leadership. Finally, based on case study and literature research, this paper proposes the general applicability of Compassion Leadership.
