Abstract
In recent years, the technology of virtual reality is getting mature; However, text entry in Virtual Reality is still a serious problem. Using physical keyboards can help people type efficiently; However, people are confined to space in front of physical keyboards. Although using mobile can improve the disadvantage of the physical keyboard, mobile text entry is still inefficient. In our work, we expect to understand can the efficiency be improved by offering visual feedback, and also design a new typing interface called Slider. We analyze four variances include touch point visible, finger position visible, see-through design and Slider to achieve our goal. To analyze the effect by variances cause, we invited 58 users and collect the speed and error rate when they typed in different variance condition. The data and the questionaire result, which we asked the user to answer help us to conclude the following conclusion. All of variances that we discuss can improve our typing efficiency. Slider is more efficient not only to improve the typing efficiency but also to experience Virtual Reality.
