Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to establish an automatic volatile organic compounds analysis system, which saves man power and reduces analysis time. The analysis system includes 10-canister cleaning system, 12-canister auto-sampler, 16-canister auto-injection system and sample preconcentration trap. Qualitative and quantitative data acquisition can be conducted by automation. The analytic method is based on US EPA TO-14A and TO-15. In addition, QA/QC is accomplished with TO guidiance. Our results show that MDL□0.5ppbv, precision□10% and accuracy□13% for 56 ozone precursor.Besides, this work also extended the system to real time in-situ VOCs monitoring. An adsorbent was used as a sample preconcentration trap at 300C with initial oven temperature of 400C to limit usage of liquid nitrogen. Each hourly run includes procedures such as sample injection(20min), preconcentration, separation, detection, automatic qualititive and quantitative data aquisition. During 5 days measurment, the systematic stablity was within 5%.
