Abstract
Taking industrial design (ID) course as an example, this study attempts to build appropriate evaluation criteria for ID e-learning websites by literature review as well as interviews with experts. With six teachers and 186 students from ID departments, an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) questionnaires survey was conducted and the weights of each evaluation criterion were obtained. In order to verify the reliability of the evaluation indices and to investigate the satisfaction rate of the on-line evaluation system that was developed according to the evaluation criteria, a real ID e-learning website was evaluated. In addition, to compare the effects of evaluation with our on-line evaluation system, an commercial automatic website evaluation tool was also used to evaluate the same website.The results showed that evaluation criteria for ID e-learning websites should include four major groups: “educational website function designs”, “interactive interface designs”, “web page designs and multimedia applications”, and “contents of the teaching materials”. These groups were weighted 18.91%, 25.81%, 24.47% and 30.82% for the importance of an ID e-learning website, respectively. These groups could be further divided into 14 criteria items and 46 specific indices. As for the satisfaction rate for the on-line evaluation system, most of the subjects rated the system as “satisfactory” or above. Therefore, the study result provided specific aspects for improving ID e-learning websites. The on-line evaluation system could be an e-learning website evaluation tool for further related researches.
