Abstract

As computer gets upgrading, numerous engineering project issues can be simulated on PC. In this research, we use a finite element thermal conduction code compiled by Fortran language. Due to finite element method is quite complicated, and can be used only in the form of texts to input parameters, we develop a graphical user interface software which could combine the code with preprocessor and postprocessor. In the future we can use this operating easily software in teaching. The users can understand the thermal phenomenon through postprocessor. Therefore, we use “Visual Basic 6.0” to be our program developing tool.After completing auto-mech design of simple shapes, we suppose to analyze the spent nuclear fuel dry storage case through the software. The spent nuclear fuels immersing in the fuel pool for several years still generate decay heat. Consequently, it is necessary to analyze the thermal phenomenon while designing and building dry storage plant. We expect to offer a reference for the spent nuclear fuel dry storage module by this research.While designing the dry storage model, we found that the structure of fuel assembly is complex. For this reason, we build up a kind of homogenous material property to simplify element mech problems, and utilize some correlations to evaluate heat convection coefficients for simulating fast.According to the result, we conclude as followings. First, all fuel assembly temperatures are under the dry storage regulation. Second, thermal radiation has great effect on heat exchange. Finally, the horizontal dry storage temperature is lower than the vertical one, but the latter still under the regulation.
