Abstract

Bubbles detectors utilize thousands of superheated liquid droplets which base on Freon compounds and the droplets distribute homogeneously inside the detector. When neutrons collide with the atoms of the superheated liquid droplets, resulting the energetic recoil nuclei. The recoil nuclei will lease its energy along its path. If the recoil nuclei deposit enough energy into the droplet's volume, the droplet will grow to "critical radius" and vaporising a visible bubble automatically.Bubble detectors are insensitive to gamma-ray, unaffected to humidity, have no response to temperature between 20℃~37℃, reusable and determine the absorbed dose by counting the bubbles inside the detector immediately. Comparing to other neutron detectors, bubble detectors avoid complex operational process and wasteness in counting time;contrary, bubble detector provide a fast、qualitative and quantity analysis method.There are three types of bubble detectors, including BDS (bubble-neutron spectrometer), BD-PND (bubble-neutron personnel dosimeter) and BDT (bubble-thermal neutron dosimeter). This research will divide into two parts:first, the bubble detectors are calibrated by using Cf-252 neutron source and activation foil technique with gold plate, second, using the bubble detectors to determine neutron dose in the operating nuclear power plant. This research also discusses the problems when operate the bubble detectors and proof the applicable characters of bubble detectors in the nuclear power plant operation.
