Abstract
Hydraulic erosion is often seen in the hydraulic and marine engineering structure. The present study explores the effects of several erosion parameters on the weight loss of concrete specimen, which are seldom discussed in the previous reference. The concrete specimen has the compressive strength of 5,000 psi. The experimental parameters include exposed time, incidence angle, and stand-off distance, and upper stream pressure. The flow velocity is estimated by the upper stream pressure and stand-off distance considered in round jet model. ANCOVA is carried out to examine the cross effects of those parameters. The regression analysis shows the relationship between each parameter and the weight loss as follows: the weight loss is proportional to exposed time and upper steam pressure, the maximum value lies between 30 degree and 45 degree of incidence angle, and is affected by the fourth order polynomial of flow velocity. The result of present study provides a reference to the concrete erosion and related engineering design.
