Abstract

自我轉化 社會運動 意義感 人際網絡 親情 友情 轉化學習 self=transformation social movement activist meaning family relation friendship
It’s a self-narrative essay about self-transformation process of social activists. It tried to figure out why the activist chooses to protest and what happened in his mind and his relationship with others. There are two parts of the research. One part is about meaning. Park & Folkman (1997) distinguished meaning between global meaning and situational meaning. It is considered if the experience about the social movement is congruent with the global meaning, the activist might feel meaningful and be willing to keep protest. The other part is about what changed in the relationship when the activist protested. Huang, Cheng & Hwang’ (2008) Ren model is used to explain what happened in his family relation. He experienced “self-exceeding” stage, “self-compartmentalization” stage and then became “flexible self” stage. In his friendship, he faced alienation which was the beginning of the transformative learning. In social movement organization, he was afraid to voice at first and became more confident to voice later. The self-transformation process of the social activist is made. It started at meaningless status. He felt meaningless about his life. At radical status. He felt meaningful when he participated in social movements. He also tried hard to challenge everyone who disagreed with him in political points of view and made lots of his friends leave him. At now, he is in accepting status. He can accept different opinions and alienation. In the future, he may find his way be with himself and others. The story of the researcher might be helpful to know how meanings affect activists to protest and what will happen in their relationship.
