Abstract
This study explores the shift of the role, the changes of marital power relations and social network rebuilding of spouses of Taiwanese businessmen in China based on the field work and interviews. The findings indicate that the migration process and participations in social network provide more opportunities for the spouses to access the information and emotional supports. The author combines her findings with relevant theories and proposes the term ‘life resources.’ On the contrary of the concept of ‘economic resources’, which emphasizes on the relations between incomes and marital power. ‘Life resources’ help the spouses not only to participate in making family decisions, but also to rebuild their social networks and trust circles that enable the spouses to cope with the readjustment after resuming family life from their careers.
