Abstract
With the advanced development of computer technology and the quest for customization production, manufacturers are directly in face with individual customer’s few and yet entirely different product demands (Business to Customer, B2C). Thus, an improved version of information systems, which emphasizes on the integration of various systematic matrixes and the flexibility and expandability of software, is needed to enhance a company’s competitive edge. Moreover, since traditional information systems, such as the BOM Systems, are prone to information overflow in customization settings, tools to compress BOM information are essential in new system development. In order to lessen the time software engineers spent on research, analysis, and development, this research tries to set up a model that is both flexible and expandable and can compress the information loading of BOM Systems. In order to satisfy new functional needs, aside from basic information such as product configuration and quantity in-need, BOM Systems have to integrate demands from other information systems, such as financial cost systems. This research intends to use the expandable characteristic of object-class in object-oriented technology to develop a new BOM System, making it expandable and flexible. In terms of compressing BOM information, this research combines the concept of GBOM (Generic BOM) and MBOM (Modular BOM) to set up a model of configurable BOM System. It also rests on OMT to be the base of its object-oriented analysis, and to set up the System’s object model, dynamic model, and functional model. Completion of the model helps software engineers understand the internal application of a configurable BOM System and its devices to integrate with external systems. This cuts down the time for software engineers to spend on system design and analysis.
